    Absence/Illness and Lates

    Option 2 - Attendance Line at 1-844-305-3756 and follow the prompts.  Please ensure that you receive a confirmation number of your call before hanging up.  This is a 24-hour voice mailbox. If a student arrives late for school, he or she is required to report to the office for a late slip.  


    Bikes, Scooters, Skateboards and Rollerblades

    Pupils and parents must walk their bicycles on school grounds for safety. Bikes should be locked in the stands provided. The school is not responsible for theft or damage. For safety reasons, bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, and scooters may not be used on school property. Scooters must be brought into the school in the morning before school and parked on the scooter rack.

    Bus Delays and Cancellations

    Please call the attendance line if your child will NOT attend that day. 

    Radio stations in our area will announce bus delays or cancellations. As well, if you have internet access you can go to the bus monitor website: go to www.tvdsb.ca and then click on the bus icon

    All members of the school community must:

    Respect the need of others to work in an environment that is conducive to learning and teaching, including by ensuring that cell phones and other personal mobile devices are used only during instructional time (as directed by an educator), for health and medical purposes and/or to support special education needs.

    It is important to note that the above cell phone requirement pertains only to instructional time and does not apply to before and after school, breaks or extra curricular activities.

      At Prince Charles we are encouraging the responsible, safe and courteous use of technology.  We recognize that cellphones, iPods, and handheld devices are a part of our everyday life. It is our role as a school community to model and monitor the safe and responsible use of this technology.  We must ensure that we respect the privacy rights of staff and students and use this technology appropriately.

    If a parent needs to contact their child during school hours please phone the office to leave a message and we will ensure that it is communicated to your child.  Students who need to call home with an important concern can, with permission, use the school phone in the office. We want to maximize our instructional time and reduce the number of distractions during the school day.  

    Entrances and Exits

    It is expected that all students will enter and exit the school building using the door assigned to their classroom location during entry and dismissal times. Students should not enter or exit by the front doors. In order to ensure student safety parents/guardians must follow the school policy and wait outside the appropriate exterior doors for their child(ren) at dismissal time.  

    Please do not gather in the hallways, foyer or office area.

    If an older child is expected to pick up a younger one, please find a designated spot outside on the yard for them to meet. School staff are on duty until 3:40 pm every afternoon. 


    Field Trips and Volunteering

    Parents will receive notice of any upcoming class trips or sports events. If you 

    have financial concerns for any costs associated with field trips, please contact the office.  If you are interested in volunteering to assist with supervision, please ensure you have a current Criminal Background Check on file with the school. Forms can be obtained in the office. The fee is $10. It is advisable to get your Criminal Background Check at the beginning of the year so they can be processed in a timely manner.


    Medical Conditions and Emergency Forms

    Parents are required to report any allergies or medical conditions which affect their child(ren). This information is extremely important in the event of reactions or when medical attention is necessary at school. Depending on the condition, an Individual Plan of Care (IPOC) may need to be completed. This can be completed in the parent portal. 




    Medication can be administered at school only if a doctor authorizes it and a current Administration of Prescription Medication form is on file. Otherwise, it is the responsibility of parents to make arrangements.


    Parking is located on the west side of the building.  Please note that the front circle is closed from from 3:20-3:40 to allow for buses to enter.  At all times, students and families are reminded to use the sidewalks.


    In order to ensure student safety, pets are NOT permitted on school property at any time.  

    School Visitors

    Please begin your visit at the office.  If you need to pick up your child early from school, we will call the classroom and have your child meet you in the office.


    Snack and Lunch Program

    Through generous donations from our community partners, we are able to run a snack program throughout each day.  All are welcome! We also have a Snack Lunch program that is offered daily. 


    Student Sign Out

    If your child must leave school early for an appointment, please send a note to your child's teacher. All students MUST be signed out in the office. Only people listed on current contact information can pick up your child. If there are custody concerns, please let the office know so that we can put appropriate plans in place.


    Yard Supervision

    The school yard is supervised from 8:45 to 9:00 am, and 3:30 - 3:40 pm. Children should not be on school property outside of these times. Playground equipment is out of bounds during these times.  


    Progressive Discipline 

    Students must be responsible for their own actions.  Progressive discipline includes: 

    • Proactive approaches such as:  movement, sensory or quiet breaks, peer mentor, alternative recess programs, mindfulness activities, incentive programs,  differentiated instruction and assessment, sunshine calls, and parent communication.     

    • Reminders by staff members of A.B.L.E. expectations with suggestions for improvement

    • Collaborative Problem-solving

    • Apology

    • Counselling or chat with student with a focus on strategies to change behaviour

    • Loss of recess

    •  Parent or guardian contact

    • Loss of privileges which may include lunch at school, yard, extracurricular activities or class trips

    • Support through the Student Success Room

    •  Office referral

    • Program Development Team referral

    • Board personnel and services referral (Mental Health TOSA, School Support Counsellor, FNMI Counsellor, Special Education Services)

    • Community supports and services referral (Vanier, CPRI, Merrymount, CAS)

    •  Suspension

    •  Police intervention or through Community Service Officer

    •  Expulsion


    When inappropriate behaviour occurs, consideration will be given to determine the most appropriate response for that particular student based on the specific circumstances of the incident, the nature and severity of behaviour, the impact on the school climate, and mitigating or extenuating factors.
